DIY or Not to DIY
Many people are capable of carrying out maintenance and repair work on their own homes, including fixing the fence, painting the spare bedroom and fixing a leaking tap.
Most of the restrictions on DIY come down to the following facts: skill, time, energy and tools to do the job.
With the exception of minor work, all plumbing and drainage work in New Zealand must be carried out by a registered plumber. Plumbers in New Zealand are licensed by the New Zealand Plumbers, Gasffitters and Drainlayers Board.
Here are some quick DIY Tips
Know what legal restrictions are (if any) on doing things yourself. Councils tend to get annoyed if you accidentally connect your sewer to the stormwater connection. If you need a licensed plumber or drainlayer to do the job legally, then employ one, there may be legal or insurance complications later.
Work in sequence, Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 etc like paint the walls before you put the carpet down.
